When You Feel Inadequate, Trust in God

Moses walking through the parted sea toward the sunrise - When You Feel Inadequate, Trust in God, 2 Corinthians 3:5

“Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.”
— 2 Corinthians 3:5 (NKJV)

There are moments in life when our responsibilities seem greater than our abilities. We question whether we are good enough, whether we can succeed, or whether we have what it takes to fulfil the task before us.

Yet, the Bible reminds us that our strength does not come from ourselves alone. Our sufficiency comes from God.

Moses: God Can Use You Despite Your Weaknesses

When God called Moses to deliver the Israelites from Egypt, Moses felt unqualified. He was concerned about his ability to speak and tried to explain why he was not the right person for the assignment.

But God assured him in Exodus 4:12:

“Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.”

God did not promise Moses a journey without challenges. He promised His presence and guidance.

This reminds us that feeling inadequate does not mean we are incapable of serving God’s purpose. God knows our weaknesses, yet He invites us to trust Him and move forward in faith.

Gideon: God Sees Beyond Your Limitations

Gideon also struggled with feelings of inadequacy. When God called him to deliver Israel from the Midianites, Gideon questioned his ability to accomplish such a great task.

In Judges 6:15, he explained that his clan was the weakest in Manasseh and that he was the least in his father’s house.

Gideon saw his limitations, but God saw what He could accomplish through him.

The Lord assured him in Judges 6:16:

“Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man.”

God eventually gave Gideon victory with an army of just 300 men, demonstrating that deliverance depended on His power rather than human strength (Judges 7).

Gideon’s story teaches us that our background, weaknesses, and limitations do not have to define our future. What matters is our willingness to trust and obey God.

Trust God When You Feel Inadequate

Perhaps you are facing a responsibility at work, in your family, or in your church that makes you doubt yourself. You may feel unprepared or believe that someone else could do it better.

Remember that God does not ask us to depend entirely on our own abilities. He calls us to seek His wisdom, trust His guidance, and take steps of faith.

When you feel inadequate, pray for wisdom. When you feel weak, depend on God’s strength. When fear tells you that you cannot move forward, remember His promises.

Your abilities may be limited, but God’s power is not.

Final Thought

Moses felt inadequate. Gideon felt unqualified. Yet both learned to depend on the God who called them.

Do not allow feelings of inadequacy to make you forget God’s faithfulness. You may not have all the answers, and you may not feel ready for every challenge, but you can trust God to guide you as you walk in obedience.

Let the words of 2 Corinthians 3:5 encourage you today: Our sufficiency is from God.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to trust You when I feel inadequate. Give me wisdom when I lack understanding, courage when I am afraid, and faith to obey Your calling. Teach me to depend on Your strength rather than my own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection: What responsibility or challenge are you facing today that requires you to trust God more than yourself?

May God strengthen your faith and guide your steps today.
