Life is filled with storms, challenges, and distractions. We worry about work, finances, family, health, and the future. In the middle of all this, Jesus gives us one simple but life-changing instruction: keep your eyes on Him.
Peter: Faith That Walks Above the Storm
In Matthew 14, Jesus came to His disciples walking on the water during a storm. Peter boldly stepped out of the boat at Jesus’ invitation and began walking on the water. As long as his eyes remained on Jesus, he did the impossible.
However, the moment Peter focused on the strong wind and raging waves, fear replaced faith, and he began to sink.
The lesson is clear: our circumstances should never become greater than our Savior. Storms may surround us, but they do not have to overwhelm us. When we keep our focus on Jesus, He gives us the courage to keep moving forward. Even when we stumble, He is always ready to reach out and lift us up.
Mary and Martha: Choosing What Matters Most
In Luke 10, Jesus visited the home of Mary and Martha. Martha was busy serving, while Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, listening to His teaching.
Although Martha’s service was valuable, Jesus gently reminded her that she was distracted by many things. Mary had chosen what was most important—spending time in His presence.
This passage teaches us that while work, ministry, and daily responsibilities are important, our relationship with Jesus must always come first. We cannot effectively serve Him if we neglect spending time with Him.
Fix Your Eyes on Jesus
Life will always present distractions and difficulties. Problems may come, responsibilities may increase, and unexpected storms may arise. Yet our peace is not found in perfect circumstances but in the presence of Christ.
The writer of Hebrews encourages us:
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” — Hebrews 12:2
When our focus is on Jesus:
- Fear gives way to faith.
- Worry is replaced with peace.
- Weakness is strengthened by His grace.
- Confusion gives way to His direction.
Conclusion
Peter teaches us to trust Jesus during life’s storms. Mary teaches us to prioritize His presence above life’s distractions. Together, they remind us that the key to a victorious Christian life is not the absence of challenges but the presence of Christ.
No matter what you are facing today, choose to keep your eyes on Jesus. He will give you peace in every storm, strength for every challenge, and wisdom for every decision.

Lord Jesus, help us to keep our eyes fixed on You in every season of life. Give us faith when storms arise, wisdom when distractions come, and a heart that longs to spend time in Your presence. Guide our steps, strengthen our faith, and let our lives bring glory to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
